This course examines the many emerging and evolving "ethnic" criminal organizations in the US today. Students will be presented with numerous "intelligence briefs" regarding both domestic and international criminal organizations - from traditional organizations, such as La Cosa Nostra, Triads and Yakuza to "evolving" groups, such as Southeast Asians (Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian, Hmong) , Gypsies, Nigerians, Somali, Jamaicans and Eastern Europeans and "emerging" criminal organizations, such as the Y.A.K's, Mexicans and the myriad groups broadly labeled "Latinos". The course examines the history, development and cooperative agreements of these criminal groups, contemplating their proclivities and the "most probable" path of evolution, in an attempt to forecast future activity. Contemporary research and intelligence collection techniques will also be explored.
